With the cancellation of taxes and excise duties in 2008 (on wines and spirits of less than 30°), the government of Hong Kong wished to develop specialised trade shows and asked for the organisation by the HKTDC, already manager of the Congress Centre, of a wine show able to promote Hong Kong in foreign countries. The first show was held in August 2008, with 240 exhibitors.

The second was scheduled outside of the holidays and harvesting period, in November 2009 and 934 exhibitors were present during the edition in 2011, attracting 19,400 visitors and buyers, a 37% increase compared to the previous year.

« More than half of our visitors came from China, mentions Marc Allard, Manager of HKTDC in Paris. But we also have many importers from Hong Kong and many newcomers of the trade ». Exhibitors from Azerbaijan, Denmark and Russia were first-time participants this year. Italy and France featured the largest pavilions. Some 950 exhibitors from 36 countries and regions were taking part in the fair,

For this 5th edition, 20 000 professionnal visitors (+ 5%) were present and 20 000 other visitors the last day, opened for the public.
